Make your own terra-cotta Nativity Set...

For this project you will need:

2 small terra-cotta pots and one saucer, wooden knobs, acrylic paints, paint brushes, glue, fabric and embroidery floss.

Decide what colors you want to paint the bodies and cover all sides with paint. The saucer you will cover the inside too.

After they're all painted, let them dry.

We tried this with some glue but the knobs were too big to stay put. If you purchased smaller knobs, then the glue would work.

So instead we got out the glue gun and this worked perfectly. My daugher is almost 11 years old and handled the glue gun fine, but use your judgement with your kids if you decide to use one :)

Glue each knob on the pot. This is the head (obviously).

Next take one piece of your fabric and fold the raw edge in. This will be the swaddling clothes.

Wrap it around Baby Jesus and put a bead of glue to secure the front.

Wrap it around in the back and lay him in the saucer. Oh you can put some raffia in the bottom first.

Take another piece of fabric. This will be for the "robes". Put a small bead of glue on the top of each head and center the fabric over it.

Wrap a piece of embroidery floss around the head. You may have to glue this down as well. We did on one of them. Trim the fabric evenly all around and then your done! (notice the Amy Butler fabric ;)
