My oldest daughter like making this craft. It was very easy to do and requires only minimal hand sewing.

Supplies: Felt, stuffing (wool or polyfill works great), the tree pattern, embroidery floss, buttons, needle and scissors. You can download the tree pattern here or make your own!
We started with an old wool sweater we felted in the washing machine and dried on high.

Cut out the pattern on your felt.

Take the top tree and decide where you want the buttons to go.

And start sewing them onto the top tree only.

Thread your embroidery floss through your needle. Lauren used all six strands but you can use less. Start sewing from one side. We used a blanket stitch but you can use a whip stitch or a running stitch. Here's a great site to learn different stitches, Primrose Design Stitch School blog. Check the side bar for the different stitches.

Make sure to stop stitching about 2" before you meet the other side so you can insert some stuffing.

Clip your thread and then massage the tree to distribute the stuffing evenly.

And there you go. This is a cute decoration for around the home. You can also fill the tree with some lavender or evergreen needles to make it smell good. Try felting some fair isle sweaters or stripey sweaters for a different look!

I wash it in hot, rinse in cold and then dry it in the dryer. If it doesn't come out felted enough, repeat the process. To felt you need to shock the wool. Oh and the sweater needs to be 100% wool.

To felt a wool sweater, do you just wash it in hot water and then dry it in the dryer?
