JM: When did you get started sewing and creating?

KATARINA: I was raised in an artistic family: my father is a painter, my mother ceramic-pottery artist, sister is a stage designer and growing in such an environment rich with artistic events and creating daily definitely determinate my life and creations. So, since my father was working even as a graphic designer when I was just a little girl (no computer was used in that!!), I often had the opportunities to create some smaller parts for some designs when it was something in correspondence with/for children.

So, my first edited design was the Christmas box for chocolate cookies when I was only 8. I suppose that designing for children was definitely my first task, that raised through years in passion, designation and dedication...since later when attending Artistic Faculty almost all off my Graphic works were for that purpose( I did many illustrations for children books and even designed my font for one of these books that was looking like childish handwriting). Well, sewing for children came much later, after getting my first daughter 6 years ago. I sewn before that some clothes for me and my sister, since my grandmother's best friend was a lady that was a professional seamstress. And I actually thought some things from here, but basically...I was trying always to figure by myself how to do something and I think that experience, beside talent is one of the most important factors in sewing.

JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay?

KATARINA:I started selling on ebay just last year, in July. First I had some auctions on ebay. It is where I'm registered at, but after discovering fantastic category for children handmade items on I jumped in and I was truly delighted with fantastic designs and presentation I saw there!!! Since I'm doing also the accessories for children, mainly hairclips, I'm selling them in some local boutiques and in a while I will be selling even through my website that is at the moment still under construction.

JM: Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay?

KATARINA:Yes, of course I remember... it was actually just the skirt that was sold on ebay. It went for only 10 euros and my first outfit listed on was the Zagala outfit that was sold for 46 $.

JM: How did come up with your name, Flowers*and*Butterflies ?

KATARINA:I was thinking about 2 things that may represent children, how gorgeous they are. Especially girls as my sewing orientation...and so I came with "Like flowers and butterflies"(that was my ebay store name), since every little girl is such a beautiful bloomer that grows and changes quickly just like a little butterfly.

JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?

KATARINA: Yes, I do belong to theChicks. Actually my group name was the Courtyard, but recently we just merged with theChicks into one great and fantastic group. I was invited into the group just a few months ago and I discovered how incredibly GREAT that is. We are such a supportive, friendly and chatty group and I must say that even living Oceans away...I definitely feel like home on our group board...and it's even helping me improving my English! LOL!

JM: Do you have a favorite item to create?

KATARINA:I don't have a favorite thing, I enjoy creating everything...especially working on the detail. I don't have a common pattern I use...since the fabrics are those who inspires me itself...and only after combining fabrics, I come to the pattern that would "hold" and "fit" the outfit and therefore I'm always working on some new detail "moments" that are trully my passion.

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

KATARINA: Well, from the crafty skills - I would like to learn from my mother how to make a clay pot on a pottery wheel and from those technical ones, I would like to improve my computer skills and become able to design the website all by myself!

JM: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?

KATARINA:Definitely to the US, so that I could get to know in person all of my wonderful group mates and take the children to the!

JM: What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

KATARINA: I work as an assistant for Drawing and Painting in the local Faculty for Design and beside working on my new creations and new designs, I really enjoy teaching. At the moment I'm also preparing my 4th individual exhibition and I'm getting so excited when creating those assemblages made from the scraps and smaller pieces-remnants fabrics, paper etc.

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

KATARINA:Yes, first of all a big thank you Amy for choosing and inviting me to be the Designer of this week, it was really such an honor!!! I love reading JM and getting to know better some incredible talented Designers featured here. Also hugs and kisses to all fantastic ladies from my group-you are the best, girls!!!
